Chairman Bost Announces 119th Congress Subcommittee Chairs, Committee Membership, Veteran First Agenda for Veterans and their Families

Today, following convening the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs for its official Organizational Meeting for the 119th Congress, Chairman Mike Bost (R-Ill.), issued the following statement announcing the Committee’s full membership, five subcommittee chair assignments, and subcommittee membership assignments for the 119th Congress:

“The legacy of the Biden-Harris administration is bureaucracy first, veteran second. That’s unacceptable, and with our strong bench of returning and new lawmakers in place, change is coming for the men and women who have served,” said Chairman Bost. “Each of our subcommittee chairs are veterans themselves, which gives them the firsthand knowledge and experience to know what it’s like to deal with the VA bureaucracy; transition out of the military; file a disability claim; or use VA or community-based healthcare and services. We know where the shortfalls are, and we are ready to hit the ground running to cut out the red tape and protect opportunity for every single veteran – we have no greater mission, and I know veterans and their families are counting on us to get it done.”

Subcommittee on Health: Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, MD (IA-01)

“I’m honored to return as Chair of the House Veterans Affairs’ Health Subcommittee,” said Chairwoman Miller-Meeks. “Improving services and ensuring veterans receive the best possible healthcare - especially mental healthcare and suicide prevention - remains a top priority. VA care should be more efficient, more effective, and more accessible. I look forward to using my background as a veteran and physician to work with President Trump, Chairman Bost, and VA Secretary-designate Doug Collins to deliver results for our veterans.”

Subcommittee on Disability Assistance & Memorial Affairs: Rep. Morgan Luttrell (TX-08)

“I’m honored to continue serving as Chairman of the Disability Assistance and Memorial Affairs Subcommittee,” said Chairman Luttrell. “As a disabled veteran, I’ve lived the challenges our servicemembers face when they return home, and I remain committed to ensuring they receive the support and care they’ve earned. I’ll continue working across the aisle and alongside Chairman Bost to streamline the VA benefits process and champion innovative solutions to address issues our veterans face.”

Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity: Rep. Derrick Van Orden (WI-03)

“I am honored to return as the Chair of the Economic Opportunity Subcommittee,” said Chairman Van Orden. “It is my number one priority to secure effective pathways for veterans to successfully reintegrate back into civilian life, whether that be through housing, education, or vocational opportunities. I look forward to continuing my work across the aisle to ensure the needs of our vets are met so they can live productive, successful lives after serving our nation.”

Subcommittee on Oversight & Investigations: Rep. Jen Kiggans (VA-02)

“I am honored to continue serving as the Chairwoman of the Oversight & Investigations Subcommittee this Congress,” said Chairwoman Jen Kiggans. “As a former Navy helicopter pilot, daughter of a veteran, and wife of a veteran whose district is home to one of the largest active-duty military and veteran populations in the United States, improving the lives of our American heroes is - and always will be - one of my top priorities. I am committed to holding the VA accountable for our veterans and look forward to providing those who have fought for our freedoms with the care and support they deserve.”

Subcommittee on Technology Modernization: Rep. Tom Barrett (MI-07)

“After 22 years in the Army, it’s a tremendous honor to serve on the Veterans’ Affairs Committee in Congress,” said Chairman Barrett. “As Chairman of the Subcommittee on Technology Modernization, I am committed to delivering for our veterans and doing everything in my power to ensure the VA’s systems deliver the highest standard of care possible. I’m grateful to Chairman Bost for the opportunity and look forward to getting to work.”
