Washington, D.C. - Today, Chairman Phil Roe, M.D. (R-Tenn.) released the hearing schedule for November 13 - November 16.

The following events are open to the press:

WHO: Subcommittee on Technology Modernization

WHAT: “180-Day Review of the Electronic Health Record Modernization Program” 

WHEN: 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 14, 2018

Background: During this oversight hearing the Subcommittee on Technology Modernization will review the Electronic Health Record Modernization (EHRM) program’s accomplishments throughout its first 180 days, and will look ahead to its planned activities over the next year. The subcommittee will discuss the establishment of workflow councils, the analysis report completed to assess the Defense Health Agency’s Military Health System (MHS) Genesis system as EHRM’s baseline, the current state assessments of the initial implementation sites, implementation planning, the organization of the Office of EHRM and strategic alignment with MHS Genesis.

WHO: Subcommittee on Disability Assistance and Memorial Affairs

WHAT: “Exploring VA’s Oversight of Contract Disability Examinations"

WHEN: 10:30 a.m., Thursday, November 15, 2018

Background: During this oversight hearing, the subcommittee will discuss VA’s oversight of disability examinations conducted by contract medical examiners. They will discuss VA’s process to assess the quality and timeliness of contract disability exams. Moreover, the hearing will examine how VA identifies and addresses underperforming contractors.

Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity

WHAT: “A Continued Review of GI Bill Payment Delays”

WHEN: 4:00 p.m., Thursday, November 15, 2018

Background: During this oversight hearing, the subcommittee will receive an update on VA’s plans for implementing the remaining sections of H.R. 3212, the Harry W. Colmery Educational Assistance Act of 2017, also known as the "Forever GI Bill." The Subcommittee Members will also discuss VA’s efforts to improve information technology (IT) functionalities to handle new mandates under the law. The subcommittee will review explanations for the IT failures that have led to students and schools receiving the wrong payments and associated processing delays for tuition, fees and the monthly housing allowance. Lastly, the subcommittee will discuss how the Department is informing beneficiaries of these delays, as well as training VA staff to disseminate the proper information about the Forever GI Bill.
