ICYMI: House Passes 2 Bipartisan Veterans’ Bills

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Chairman Mike Bost (R-Ill.), released the following statement after the House passed two bipartisan veterans’ bills this week:

“It is an honor to see this pair of bills pass through the House today, and I know that they will each have a unique, lasting positive impact.

“Rep. Chavez-DeRemer’s bipartisan bill would authorize key VA medical facility construction projects in a handful of states, ensuring that veterans nationwide receive the access to the advanced, safe, quality care they deserve. As Chairman, I have committed time and time again to providing the funding necessary to carry out this mission, and I look forward to seeing this legislation signed into law at the President’s desk.

“General Bergman’s bill, H.R. 3672, would designate the Indian River, Michigan VA Clinic as the ‘‘P.F.C. Justin T. Paton Department of Veterans Affairs Clinic,” to honor an excellent young man who so bravely answered the nation’s call when it came. Private First Class Paton joined the Army in 2005 and deployed to Iraq in 2006, where he tragically paid the ultimate sacrifice. Private First Class Paton was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star, and this week the House ensured that his service in uniform will not be forgotten. I thank my fellow Veterans’ Affairs Committee member, General Bergman, for his work to salute this soldier, share his story, and ensure his memory lives on.”

The following bills were passed out of the House this week:

S. 30, Fiscal Year 2023 Veterans Affairs Major Medical Facility Authorization Act (Sen. Tester/Rep. Chavez-DeRemer)
H.R. 3672, To designate the clinic of the Department of Veteran Affairs in Indian River, Michigan, as the “Pfc. Justin T. Paton Department of Veterans Affairs Clinic” (Rep. Bergman)
