House Republicans Pass Veteran Mental Health Support Bill, Next Generation Reforms to Make VA Work Better

This morning, House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Chairman Mike Bost (R-Ill.) and Subcommittee on Health Chairwoman Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-Iowa), released the following statements after the House passed H.R. 1969, the No Wrong Doors for Veterans Act, key legislation to extend the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program, provide disabled veterans with adaptive prosthetics as part of a necessary medical service, and expand traditional and non-traditional mental health care options for veterans and their families.

“Since House Republicans created the Fox Grant program in 2020, hundreds of organizations in communities across the United States have been able to provide traditional and non-traditional mental health and therapy support services to veterans in need,” said Chairman Bost. “I want to thank my friend and our Health subcommittee Chairwoman Dr. Miller-Meeks for her work on the No Wrong Doors for Veterans Act to continue this lifesaving suicide prevention program. This bill also includes provisions to allow disabled veterans to receive prosthetics through VA to enjoy sports and recreational activities,” Chairman Bost continued. “With Dr. Miller-Meeks bill, we would expand mental health and wellness support by ensuring that there is truly no wrong door for veterans and their families to turn to – I look forward to seeing this bill passed in the Senate and signed into law by President Trump soon.”

“As a 24-year Army veteran and physician, I’ve seen firsthand how difficult it can be for veterans in crisis to navigate a complicated system when every second counts,” said Health Chairwoman Dr. Miller-Meeks. “The No Wrong Door for Veterans Act ensures that our heroes are never turned away or left without help. It streamlines access, strengthens coordination, and reaffirms our promise to those who served. I’m proud to lead this critical bill—and to say to every veteran: we see you, we hear you, and we will fight for you.”
