Bost Questions Whether Proposed FY 2023 VA Budget Increase Would Produce Better Results for Veterans

Today, Rep. Mike Bost (R-Ill.), the Ranking Member of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, released the following statement after the Committee held a hearing to review the Biden Administration’s proposed fiscal year (FY) 2023 budget request for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA):

“Our job in Congress, and especially in the VA Committee, is to make sure that VA has what it needs to serve veterans well. Our job is also to make sure that the taxpayer dollars that VA is given are used to improve veterans’ lives, not just to grow a bureaucracy that keeps veterans frustrated. It’s not at all clear to me that the massive funding increases that VA is requesting will do that,” said Ranking Member Bost. “I’m also concerned at the Biden Administration’s proposal to make VA medical care its own budget category. That would put VA spending on autopilot and stifle accountability without improving outcomes for veterans.”
