Today, Rep. Mike Bost (R-Ill.), the Ranking Member of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, released the below statement following the Committee markup of eight veterans’ bills which would impact the delivery of care and education, home loans, and compensation benefits to veterans:

“I am proud of the bipartisan work that our Committee did today on six of the eight bills that came up for a vote. I am particularly proud of the bills led by General Bergman and Dr. Murphy. Their bills would support seriously injured veterans and their caregivers and student veterans, as well as increase transparency into the inner workings of the VA healthcare system,” said Ranking Member Bost. “That said, I continue to be opposed to the total lack of process behind some of the bills that House Democrats are advancing through the VA Committee. Without regular order, we have virtually zero understanding of what a bill does, how it would help or hurt veterans, or what it would cost taxpayers. We must do better for veterans and all Americans moving forward.”

H.R. 3856: To require the Comptroller General of the United States to conduct a study on disparities associated with race and ethnicity with respect to certain benefits administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs (Rep. Takano)
H.R. 147: Bringing Registered Apprenticeships to Veterans Education (BRAVE) Act (Rep. Norcross)
