Today, Rep. Mike Bost (R-Ill.), the Ranking Member of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, released the following statement after the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced that Acting Under Secretary for Health, Dr. Richard Stone, would leave the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) in the coming weeks.
“Dr. Stone has been an incredible asset to our nation’s veterans during his time at VA. His leadership in handling the pandemic was evident from the start. I am confident lives were saved because of it. As we heard from Secretary McDonough just two days ago, this is a critical time for the VA healthcare system. Hundreds of thousands of doctors, nurses, and other staff across the country overcame tremendous obstacles under Dr. Stone’s direction over the last year and a half. They are now gearing up for a surge in care while continuing to combat COVID-19. Now, more than ever, stable leadership is needed. I am disappointed that Dr. Stone wasn’t chosen to be Under Secretary for Health to provide that. I wish him all the best in the next chapter of his career. Without question, he will be missed.” |
