Today, Rep. Mike Bost (R-Ill.), the Ranking Member of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, and House Republican Conference Chair, Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), released the following statements after introducing The Veterans 2nd Amendment Protection Act.
“Veterans served in defense of our Constitution and the rights it guarantees to every American. They should never have those rights taken away by government bureaucrats without due process,” said Ranking Member Bost. “That is why I introduced the Veterans 2nd Amendment Protection Act today. This bill would make certain that no veteran who has a fiduciary appointed to help with their VA benefits automatically loses their Second Amendment right to own a firearm. We know this practice prevents veterans from seeking the care and benefits they’ve earned. We must end it. “No one, especially those who risked their lives defending our nation, should have their constitutional rights infringed. The legislation that Ranking Member Bost and I introduced today will ensure that the Second Amendment Rights of law-abiding veterans are not hindered by government red tape and will prevent unelected bureaucrats from denying veterans of their ability to purchase or own a firearm. Both Rep. Bost and I will fight hard to advance this legislation and bring attention to this important issue," said Rep. Liz Cheney. Ranking Member Bost also introduced The Modernizing Veterans’ Healthcare Eligibility Act today. “It has been more than 25 years since the current eligibility system was established,” he said. “We hear stories every day about veterans who aren’t well-served by it. This commonsense bill would recommend ways to modernize it and increase confidence that the VA healthcare system is living up to its promise to those who have served.” To learn more about The Veterans 2nd Amendment Protection Act, click here.
