Chairman Roe Statement on House Passage of Veterans Benefit and Transition Act of 2018

Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. Phil Roe, M.D. (R-Tenn.), Chairman of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, released the following statement after the House passed the Veterans Benefit and Transition Act of 2018:

“As we near the end of the 115th Congress, I am happy that the House passed yet another piece of legislation that helps our veterans. The House has already passed over 80 veterans’ bills this Congress, and this legislation includes many of those bills. This bill does a range of important things, from increasing veterans’ benefits to improving the transition process.

“One of the provisions in the bill would aide student veterans that utilize the Forever GI Bill. It would make schools ineligible for GI Bill tuition payments if they placed penalties or burdens on students as a result of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) failing to pay GI Bill payments on time.

“Additionally, the legislation includes other provisions that would improve burial benefits for servicemembers, veterans and their families as well as provisions that expand the eligibility for a successful homeless veteran job training program. These are just a few of the many good things this legislation would achieve. I am thankful the House quickly passed this bill and I look forward to the Senate passing, and the President signing, this legislation as soon as possible.”
