Washington, D.C. - Today, Chairman Roe (R-Tenn.) released the following statement after the passing of President George H. W. Bush. "I am saddened to hear of the passing of President George H. W. Bush. He served bravely during World War II as a Navy pilot and was a true American hero. Not only did he serve our country, but he was the youngest Naval aviator our nation had ever seen. He answered the call to serve and exemplified what it means to be a true American hero. President George H. W. Bush is a reason why we must remain committed to serving our veterans. "Even when President Bush was shot down during his service, he persevered on behalf of our nation. He looked evil in the face and stood tall. I am grateful for the commitment the President made on behalf of this nation, we are a better country because of it. "Lastly, beyond his service to country was his commitment to his family. He raised his children to be strong, committed leaders like himself and loved his wife Barbara until his last breath. And while we mourn the loss of this great man, I take solace in the fact that he is now reunited with his beloved wife. "Clarinda and I are keeping the entire Bush family in our prayers as we mourn the loss of this incredible man." |
