House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Chairman Mike Bost (R-Ill.), delivered the following opening remarks, as prepared, at the start of the House Committee on Rules hearing on two House Republican bills that will be considered on the House floor this week, H.R. 1041, the Veterans 2nd Amendment Protection Act, led by Chairman Bost and H.R. 6047, the Sharri Briley and Eric Edmundson Veterans Benefits Expansion Act, led my Rep. Tom Barrett (R-Mich.).

Eric Edmundson and his father and caregiver, Ed Edmundson, after they testified on the Hill for a bill that would increase benefits for critically wounded veterans. The bill is named after Eric, who was catastrophically wounded near the border of Iraq and Syria in 2005.

Sgt. (Ret.) Eric Edmundson’s father, Ed Edmundson, testified at a legislative hearing in December 2025 to talk about how HR 6047 would help families and caregivers like themselves, who provide round the clock care to their 100% disabled veteran loved ones.
