Today, House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Chairman Mike Bost (R-Ill.), released the following statement after the Senate voted 77-23 to confirm President Trump’s nomination, the Honorable Douglas A. Collins, to serve as the twelfth Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA):
“I served with my friend from Georgia and fellow veteran Doug Collins in the House, and I know he has the best interests of our veterans, their families, and their survivors in his heart,” said Chairman Bost. “For too long, bureaucratic red tape has stood in the way of veterans not getting the healthcare and services they have earned. I know with him at the helm, that’s about to change. We must restore accountability for bad VA employees, streamline the delivery of benefits, and make certain that the intent of the VA community care program is understood – and carried out properly – across the country. I have no doubt that he is the right man for the job, and I look forward to working with him to put veterans first and propel VA into the 21st century agency we know it can be – our veterans deserve nothing less.” |
