Chairman Bost’s Statement on the Anniversary of the Abbey Gate Terror Attack

Today, House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Chairman Mike Bost (R-Ill.), released the following statement on the three-year anniversary of the Abbey Gate terrorist attack following the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan that claimed the lives of 13 U.S. servicemembers and had a profound impact on the veteran community:

“Three years ago, the world watched as the Biden-Harris administration led the most disastrous withdrawal from a conflict zone since the Vietnam War. As a result, 13 Gold Star families received the news they hoped they’d never receive,” said Chairman Bost. “The impact of this failure on our veteran community who served overseas and live with the visible and invisible wounds of war cannot be overstated, and I know veterans who are still fighting with that mental strain today. We will never forget the sacrifices made by the 13 American heroes we lost on August 26, 2021 – including their families, and the thousands of men and women who served in Afghanistan over the course of twenty years.”
