The holidays are upon us, and for many Americans it is a time of great joy. The opportunity at Christmas and New Year’s to be with those closest to us always reminds us of the great many gifts we have been given, for which we are grateful. While it is important to remain thankful for the many blessings that we have in our own lives, it is equally as important that we be thankful for those in uniform currently serving overseas.

Many American families will not be whole this Christmas because their loved ones are defending us abroad. This dedication to our country and selflessness is nothing new. Our men and women in uniform have been doing this since the inception of our nation, dating back to General Washington and his men’s crossing of the Delaware on the night of December 25, 1776. This iconic moment in American history serves as the common drumbeat of our military and our veterans these last 11 years—cold nights, far from home, but always focused on and dedicated to the mission.

During this holiday season, we once again remember and give thanks to all those serving, and to all those who have served, and we wish everyone much Joy in 2013!
