Ranking Member Roe Applauds Senate VA Committee Passage of Amended IMPROVE Act

Today, Rep. Phil Roe, M.D. (R-Tenn.), the Ranking Member of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, released the following statement after the Senate Committee on Veterans' Affairs passed an amended version of the bipartisan IMPROVE Well-Being for Veterans Act:
"I applaud Chairman Moran, Ranking Member Tester, and the other Members of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee for voting unanimously this morning in support of an amended version of the IMPROVE Act that would allow veterans at-risk of suicide to receive needed services and support - including care - through VA’s partners in the community. Just after our Senate colleagues acted, the House Committee met to assess how VA coordinates care for suicidal veterans in light of several tragic incidents across the country where veterans died by suicide while receiving care in VA facilities. There can be no more poignant reminder of just how urgent this crisis is and how quickly we must act to address it. The SVAC-approved language closely mirrors compromise legislation that I drafted last fall and it has my support. I hope to see it considered by the full Senate, in the House, and on the President’s desk very soon and stand by to work with all of my colleagues to achieve this victory for our veterans and their families."
