The following event is open to the press:
WHO: Subcommittee on Health
WHAT: More Than Just Filling Vacancies: A Closer Look at VA Hiring Authorities, Recruiting and Retention
WHEN: 10:00 a.m., Thursday June 21, 2018
WHERE: 334 Cannon House Office Building and streaming here.
BACKGROUND: During this hearing, the Health Subcommittee will discuss staffing for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) healthcare system. Congress included a number of provisions in the VA Choice and Quality Employment Act of 2017 (Public Law 115-46) to improve VA’s ability to recruit, retain and on-board high-quality clinicians and support staff to care for veteran patients in VA medical facilities. The subcommittee will also examine information from the VA Office of the Inspector General regarding Veterans Health Administration (VHA) occupational staffing shortages, as well as the October 2017 Government Accountability Office report which found incomplete information on the number of physicians employed by VHA and the lack of a comprehensive evaluation of VHA’s recruitment and retention programs.
