BACKGROUND: This subcommittee oversight hearing will focus on the maintenance, construction and expansion of cemeteries managed by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC). Additionally, the hearing will examine burial access for veterans and look at other VA and ABMC memorialization programs.

WHAT: An Assessment of Potential Health Effects of Burn Pit Exposure Among Veterans

BACKGROUND: This subcommittee oversight hearing will examine the potential long-term health effects of burn pit exposure among veterans. During the hearing, the subcommittee will discuss additional actions, if any, VA should take to identify and care for veterans who were exposed to burn pits during service in the Armed Forces. The subcommittee will also assess scientific research regarding burn pit exposure as well as the use and effectiveness of the Airborne Hazards and Open Burn Pit Registry that Congress mandated VA create in 2013.
