Chairman Roe Welcomes Rep. Mast to Veterans' Affairs Committee, Announces New Subcommittee Leadership

Today, Rep. Phil Roe, M.D. (R-Tenn.) chairman of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, officially welcomed Rep. Brian Mast (R-Fla.) to the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs after Reps. Brad Wenstrup (R-Ohio) and John Rutherford (R-Fla.) moved to the House Committees on Ways and Means and Appropriations, respectively. Rep. Mast will serve on the Health and Economic Opportunity Subcommittees.

Chairman Roe also announced that Rep. Neal Dunn, M.D. (R-Fla.) will serve as chairman of the Health Subcommittee, replacing Rep. Wenstrup.

The members released the following statements:

“I’m proud to welcome Rep. Mast to the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs,” said Chairman Roe. “Brian is already a tireless advocate for veterans, and – as a veteran himself – is keenly aware of the challenges our nation’s heroes face. Representative Mast will be an excellent addition to the committee, and I look forward to working with him to reform VA. Additionally, I’m grateful Rep. Dunn has agreed to serve as chairman of our Health Subcommittee. This subcommittee will be even more important as the VA MISSION Act is implemented, and Neal has proven time and time again his commitment to ensuring veterans have timely access to quality care. Our committee will be even stronger because of the leadership of Reps. Mast and Dunn, and I’m excited to continue our work.”

“Our first-of-its-kind Congressional office in the West Palm Beach VA has resulted in more than 100 new cases that we’re taking a look at to help veterans in our community,” said Rep. Mast. “I'm excited that being on this committee will give me an even better platform to advocate for these veterans and my fellow veterans around the country.”

“I am honored to continue to serve America’s heroes in this leadership role on the Health Subcommittee, said Rep. Dunn. “As a doctor and Army veteran, I have seen firsthand the red tape our veterans face on a daily basis. From problems getting treatment at local facilities to traveling hundreds or even thousands of miles to qualify and receive organ transplants – our servicemembers return from war only to find they have to fight government bureaucracy. These men and women gave their all for love of country, we must now give our all to ensure they are receiving the care they have earned. Thank you Chairman Roe for entrusting me with this leadership role and for your resolute commitment to our veterans.”
