PHOTOS: CODEL Roe Makes Final Stop in Morón, Spain

On Friday, House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Chairman Phil Roe, M.D. (R-Tenn.) led a bipartisan delegation in a stop at Morón Air Base in Spain, the final stop of the CODEL. The delegation received a briefing from the 496th Base Squadron, met with constituents from their home states, visited the children of servicemembers at a school on base and received a classified briefing from the Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force on their mission.

Chairman Roe released the following statement upon landing back in the United States:

“This CODEL was a very special and informative experience for me, and I thank my colleagues for joining me. Most importantly, I’d like to thank the United States Air Force for all they did to facilitate our stops, the ABMC teams for their hospitality, the State Department teams in Germany, Brussels and Paris and the incredible staff at NATO and Ambassador Kay Bailey Hutchison for providing critical briefings for the CODEL. Additionally, the country teams of our allies - Germany, Belgium, France and Spain – are strong military and diplomatic partners in our efforts to make the world a safer place, and it was truly an honor to meet with them alongside American servicemembers. It was also a privilege to meet with representatives from Veterans Service Organizations and hear about the issues facing American veterans who live abroad. As threats around the world continue to evolve, it’s extremely important for members of Congress to have a clear picture of the current state of play, and the briefings we received will undoubtedly help guide us as we consider policies related to our national security. Additionally, as Chairman of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, I have oversight responsibility for the ABMC sites we visited, and I am extremely impressed by the dedication and professionalism of the ABMC employees who serve us abroad.”

Chairman Roe was joined by Disability Assistance and Memorial Affairs Subcommittee Chairman Mike Bost (R-Illi.) and Reps. Neal Dunn, M.D. (R-Fla.), Lou Correa (D-Calif.) and Andy Harris, M.D. (R-Md.).
