Today, Rep. Phil Roe, M.D. (R-Tenn.), Chairman of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, released the following statement after President Trump called on Congress to pass a bill to reform veterans health care: “President Trump was right to call on Congress to pass legislation to give veterans more decision-making power when it comes to their health care. The men and women who serve this country deserve timely access to the quality care they have earned. I am proud of the compromise legislation I’ve worked on with Senators Isakson and Tester – which is supported by leading veterans service organizations – to streamline VA’s community care programs so they work for veterans, expand the Post-9/11 caregiver program to veterans of all eras and conduct a comprehensive, non-partisan review of the department’s assets to ensure veterans are getting the care they need where they need it. I’ve met with Acting Secretary Wilkie, and I appreciate how focused VA’s team is on getting this done. I’m confident we can get a good bill to the president’s desk in the near term, and I will continue working tirelessly to deliver on this promise we’ve made to our nation’s heroes.” |
