HVAC Schedule July 10 - 14

Today, Chairman Phil Roe, M.D. (R-Tenn.) released the hearing schedule for July 10 – 14.

The following events are open to the press:

WHO: House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs

WHAT: “Care Where It Counts: Assessing VA’s Capital Asset Needs” 

WHEN: 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 12, 2017

BACKGROUND: During this hearing, the committee will assess the findings and recommendations of GAO, the Independent Assessment, and the Commission on Care with respect to VA’s capital asset planning and approval process as well as the recent announcement by Secretary Shulkin of his intention to dispose of all vacant VA buildings in the next two years. The committee will also consider other actions that may be needed to address VA’s vast and aging capital asset portfolio.

WHAT: “Examining VA’s Processing of Gulf War Illness Claims”

BACKGROUND: At this hearing, the Subcommittees on Disability Assistance and Memorial Affairs and Oversight and Investigations will review VA’s handling of disability claims by veterans who may have developed medical conditions related to their service in the Southwest Asia theater of operations.

WHAT: “Maximizing Access and Resources: An Examination of VA Productivity and Efficiency”

BACKGROUND: During the hearing, the subcommittee will discuss a GAO report that identified limitations with the metrics and models that VA uses to measure productivity and efficiency which found that these limitations restrict VA’s ability to assess whether resources are being used effectively, as well as a 2015 Independent Assessment on staffing and productivity that found that the VA healthcare system faces a number of barriers to delivering care that is as productive as private sector healthcare systems.
