HVAC Schedule June 5 - 9

Today, Chairman Phil Roe, M.D. (R-Tenn.) released the hearing schedule for June 5 - 9.  

The following events are open to the press:

WHO: House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs

WHAT: “Overcoming PTSD: Assessing VA’s Efforts to Promote Wellness and Healing

WHEN: 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 7, 2017

BACKGROUND: During this hearing, the committee will examine whether the Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) current system of health care services and benefits effectively promotes wellness and supports veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in seeking treatment. This hearing will also encompass an update from VA on the implementation of the Clay Hunt SAV Act (Public Law 114-2), which required VA to partner with nonprofit mental health organizations on veteran suicide prevention and to arrange for an independent third party evaluation of VA's mental health care and suicide prevention programs.

WHO: Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations

WHAT: “VA and Academic Affiliates: Who’s Benefiting Now?

WHEN: 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 8, 2017

BACKGROUND: The hearing will address the relationship between VA medical centers (VAMC) and its academic affiliates as well as the relationship between the VAMC’s and the local VA nonprofit corporations (NPCs). Specifically the subcommittee will examine how research is conducted when a dually appointed employee is involved, where the research funds are administered and how that determination is made. The hearing will also address accountability for employees working at both the VA and the academic affiliate, including its residency program.

WHAT: “Improving the Quality and Timeliness of GI Bill Processing for Student Veterans

WHEN: 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 8, 2017

BACKGROUND: The hearing will focus on issues relating to the processing and development of Post 9/11 GI Bill claims, including a recent internal quality audit conducted by VA, which required VA to make a significant number of inquiries to the Department of Defense (DoD) for already-processed GI Bill claims.
