Jewish chaplains’ memorial gets congressional go-ahead -- Two years ago, Caldwell resident Sol Moglen learned that while there were monuments to Protestant and Catholic chaplains at Arlington National Cemetery, there were none for this country’s Jewish chaplains.

A bill aimed at helping young veterans find jobs in a tough economy has received a strong bipartisan push in the House of Representatives..

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Jeff Denham, member of the Veterans Affairs Committee, voted in support of legislation to help and honor veterans of all generations on the House Floor yesterday.

WASHINGTON — House lawmakers on Monday passed fixes to the GI Bill designed to help about 30,000 student veterans who could see their tuition bills soar this fall. But whether Senate lawmakers will follow their lead in coming weeks remains to be seen.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Dan Benishek (MI-01) today cosponsored H.R. 1133, the “Helping Our Homeless Vets Act,” which allows the Department of Veterans’ Affairs to contract with private clinics to provide disability services to veterans and makes them eligible for housing vouchers that could pay up to 70% of their rent.

Legislation approving the placement of a long-delayed memorial to Jewish chaplains on Chaplains Hill at Arlington National Cemetery is expected to pass the House next week, along with a proposed overhaul of the process for approving memorials to prevent similar delays in the future.
