Chairman Miller Announces HVAC Staff Changes
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Chairman Jeff Miller announced that Staff Director Helen Tolar will be leaving the committee to become chief of staff for Senator John Boozman (R-AR), while Deputy Staff Director Jon Towers will succeed Tolar as the committee’s new staff director.
“Helen has been a crucial member of our team, a fantastic advocate for veterans, and someone we will truly miss. Her passion for her work is unmatched, and her focus on improving accountability and efficiency at the Department of Veterans Affairs was relentless. Our loss will undoubtedly be Senator Boozman’s gain,” Miller said.
Towers will take over as HVAC’s staff director Sept. 30, following Tolar’s departure. A veteran congressional staffer with more than 16 years of Capitol Hill experience, Towers has also served on the Republican staff of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, where he was the lead staff member on legislative and oversight matters concerning VA health care. Also, at various points during his tenure with SVAC, Towers was the lead staff member handling VA disability compensation, pension, housing, insurance and memorial affairs issues.
“Jon’s legislative experience and deep understanding of the congressional oversight process will allow us to continue full speed ahead in our quest to improve the lives of veterans while increasing accountability and efficiency at VA. I have complete confidence that our staff will thrive under Jon’s leadership, and America’s veterans will be well served,” Miller said.
