Chairman Roe Holds Bipartisan Press Conference, Urges Senate to Pass Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Act 2018

Washington, D.C.
- Today, Rep. Phil Roe, M.D. (R-Tenn.), Chairman of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, released the following statement following the bipartisan press conference he hosted on the Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Act 2018:

“The Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Act of 2018 is a critical piece of legislation that the House passed unanimously 382 – 0 back in June. It has yet to pass the Senate, which is why I held a bipartisan press conference to urge the Senate to pass it. I am grateful to all of the Members of Congress and veterans advocates that attended the press conference and spoke on behalf of our nation’s veterans.

“The House has worked closely with Veterans Service Organizations (VSOs) and others on creating a piece of legislation that best serves our Vietnam veterans and ensures that they receive the benefits they deserve. We have also worked well with Senate Veterans Affairs' Committee Chairman Isakson and Ranking Member Tester.

“Our Vietnam Veterans cannot wait any longer. Vietnam Veterans have waited decades for this and they are running out of time. This must get done this Congress, and if not, we better buckle down in January and see to it that this piece of legislation becomes law quickly."
