Roe Statement in Honor or National POW/MIA Recognition Day

Washington, September 21, 2018 | Molly Jenkins (202-225-3527)

Washington, D.C. - Today, Chairman Phil Roe, M.D. (R-Tenn.) released the following statement after President Donald J. Trump proclaimed September 21st, 2018 National POW/MIA Recognition Day:

“In my front office, there sits a chair draped with the official POW/MIA flag. The chair remains empty at all times in honor of the men and women who selflessly served our country and never returned home, and is moved into the committee room during committee business to serve as a reminder of the sacrifice of our servicemembers and our commitment to bring them home. These brave men and women made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms and we owe them a debt we can never fully repay. I am grateful that President Trump recognized today as National POW/MIA day so that we may be reminded of the heroic actions of such patriotic men and women. The sacrifices of heroes should never be forgotten, and my thoughts and prayers are with the men and women who serve our great nation today and always."
