Elmo & Cookie Monster Want YOU
To attend a Meeting Today!!
“Sesame Workshop and
Military Kids”
May 7, 2008
Dear Colleague:
Elmo and Cookie Monster cordially invite you or a member of your staff to attend a roll-out event TODAY for Sesame Workshop’s newest DVD kit specifically for young children who are coping with the challenges of deployment. We encourage you to attend this informational meeting to take a picture with big Muppets – and receive your copy of the newly-launched Talk, Listen, Connect video and get information on how you can help the children in your district.
This meeting will be held TODAY, Wednesday, May 7, 2008, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. in HC-5.
Statistics show that as many as 700,000 children under the age of five have a parent in the military. In August of 2006 Sesame Workshop launched a critically needed outreach tool, Talk, Listen, Connect, to help families and their young children cope with the challenges of deployment. Sesame Workshop’s newest project is called “Deployments, Homecomings, Changes” and has been developed to help young children gain an age-appropriate understanding of a parent’s combat-related health condition or deal with the difficulty of multiple deployments.
Come to the roll-out and pick up your copy of the Sesame Street DVD and get your picture taken with Elmo and Cookie Monster!
H.Res. 265, honoring military children during “National Month of the Military Child,” passed the House on April 8, 2008. The resolution urges all Americans to join the military community with appropriate activities that honor, support, and thank military children. It is our hope that the spirit of this resolution will thrive throughout the entire year.
