Opening Statement of Hon. Jeff Miller, Ranking Republican Member, and a Representative in Congress from the State of Florida
Thank you, Mr. Chairman.
I appreciate your holding this legislative hearing and welcome the opportunity to discuss the ten different legislative proposals before us today. I would like to offer brief introductory remarks, and note that I have introduced two of the bills and will expand on these bills, H.R. 1925 and H.R. 2623, at the appropriate time.
As we evaluate this legislation, it is important to consider that the demand for veterans’ health care is increasing and will continue to grow. While there may be some areas that will see a decrease in the veteran population, other areas, including my own Florida district, are experiencing a large increase in the veteran population. In fact, in the past ten years, the number of veterans living in FL CD 1 has grown more than 30% and is among the top 10 districts in the United States for growth of veterans since 2000.
I’d like to thank my colleagues, Dr. Kussman and all of the veteran service organization representatives for their commitment to join us today to discuss these very pertinent issues affecting our nation’s veterans.
Thank you, Mr. Chairman, I yield back.
