Dear Colleague:

You and your staff are cordially invited to attend a training session on veterans’ benefits and military law casework issues. This session will be held on Monday, May 15, between 9:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. in Room 334 Cannon House Office Building. The training is being scheduled on a Monday in order to accommodate staff members from district offices who may find the training particularly helpful. Please note that space is limited.

The session will provide:

    • an overview of benefits available to veterans and their dependents;
    • information on how to assist your constituents in obtaining their rightful benefits and services;
    • an opportunity to ask experts on this subject about veterans benefits;
    • an overview of military law issues;
    • and an opportunity to ask an expert on this subject about military law issues.

The veterans benefits training will be conducted by Ms. Meg Bartley, Staff Attorney with the National Veterans Legal Services Program (NVLSP). NVLSP is a nonprofit, national legal support center serving veterans, veterans’ dependents, and veterans’ advocates in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and U.S. trust territories. NVLSP offers a wide array of services, including training in advocacy and pursing veterans’ benefits and services; advice, analysis, information, and referrals dealing with veterans’ benefits and services; direct advocacy and litigation of benefit claims by veterans and their families; self-help guides for veterans and veterans’ families, and publications.

The military law training will be conducted by a panel of leading experts on military law issues, including Mr. Eugene Fidell, President of the National Institute of Military Justice.
