Today, House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Chairman Mike Bost (R-Ill.), Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-La.), Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.), Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.), House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.), Rep. Tom Barrett (R-Mich.), and House Committee on Financial Services Chairman French Hill (R-Ark.), released the following statements after the House passed two major veterans’ bills leading into Memorial Day. Over 150 Democrats voted against both bills. The Sharri Briley and Eric Edmundson Veterans Benefits Expansion Act would increase the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) monthly compensation benefit for service-connected, catastrophically disabled veterans and the surviving families of 100% disabled or deceased veterans. Both these tax-free VA benefits, meant to financially support veterans who live with the most severe disabilities and injuries as a result of their service in uniform, as well as the American families whose loved ones were killed in action or passed away...
